Pediment

The gable end and entrance of a temple, or a low gable over a window or door in Classical architecture. The pediment is generally ,but not always, triangular. The pediment generally has a cornice on the bottom and raking cornices on the slanting sides. The inside of the triangle is called the tympanum.
